Turning Away From the Commons

Upon reading Robin Wall Kimmerer's enchanting Braiding Sweetgrass, a thought crossed my mind:

So much of my personal fears when it comes to communal living, sharing and "socialist or communist" ideas, are related to a fear of not having enough. A fear of scarcity. A deep human fear, one in which I envisage myself losing control of my comforts that I feel I need in order to be happy. So I maintain my selfishness, my isolationism, the mystery of my being, kept away from others. It is self protection, and culturally enforced cowardice.
