Video for The Rowans School in Wimbledon, London.
Directed/Edited by Sam Ainsworth
DP: Nicolas Lejtreger
Production Assistant: Augustin Hardy
Given this was just myself, DP Nico, and Augustin, our production assistant, we were forced into more of a documentary style when approaching the shoot.
It was completed in conjunction with another shoot, for Shrewsbury House School, and as such, we had similar styles for both.
We used a Sony A7RIII on an Easy Rig for the film, shooting primarily on 100fps apart from the interview we did with the Head.
Drawing "performances" out of the children wasn't particularly difficult, as they were quite comfortable with having a camera pointed at them most of the time; sometimes I did engage them in a little game or a make-belief story of some kind, to really distract them and get them to loosen up.
The edit was quite straight forward, as it was driven by the speech by the Head, meaning that I edited around the themes she brought up, trying to use my best clips at the appropriate moment, and ensure that all the students in shot were correctly dressed and looked happy to be there!
